Written by Bhawana Sethi, this children’s tale, The Adventures of Dabba and Jalebi: Dabba and the Disappearing Dosas, is a story filled with emotions, imagination, and the lesson that people learn after one mistake. The story is written in an Indian home style, featuring a cheerful girl, Jalebi, who loves going to school with her magical & mischievous lunchbox, Dabba, which has a mind of its own. The story revolves around her Dosa.
The story starts with a cherishing, bright morning with an essence of chai and ghee, where Jalebi packs her tiffin box with Crispy, Golden Dosa prepared by her Grandmother. Her tiffin box, Dabba, was way too notorious. On their way to school, he let her intentions win and accidentally spelled Jalebi’s Crispy Dosa flying into the Garden, the Banyan Tree, and the Dog’s patch of grass.
Once the Jalebi found out about Dabba’s prank and her missing Grandmother’s Dosa, she was heartbroken and disappointed, which eventually made Dabba realize the dire consequences of his prank. But as he recognized his fault, he helped Jalebi find her lost Crispy Dosa with a hand-drawn treasure map, leading them on a mini, funny, and exciting adventure across the neighbourhood.
Once their adventure was complete, she forgave her notorious Tiffin Box – Dabba, and the grandmother taught them why it’s essential to have fun. Still, it’s vital to fulfill the responsibilities that come with being anyone. Because of the grandmother’s teaching, the next day Dabba behaved properly when he handled his own treats, along with Jalebi’s Idlis, as part of his responsibilities. Her teaching taught them that being responsible is an adventure in itself.
The Adventures of Dabba and Jalebi: Dabba and the Disappearing Dosas is a soothing story with playful illustrations that are filled with warmth and capture the naughtiness and essence of childhood, as well as the lessons of mischievousness and mistakes. The best thing is how the poet delightfully introduced this poem to young readers and also taught them the importance of acceptance and forgiveness.
