When we were interviewing Naad,a Bengaluru-based software engineer by day and an independent music producer by night, he shared his inspiring journey.
Growing up as a 90s kid, he was captivated by the rich tapestry of Indipop, fusion, and new age music. Artists like Enigma, Anoushka Shankar, Abhijit Pohankar, and Midival Punditz inspired him deeply. Despite lacking formal musical training, his journey took a transformative turn when a friend introduced him to a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW)โa software tool used for creating and mixing music on computers. Leveraging his knack for technology and drawing from his Bengali roots, he began experimenting with musical compositions. Self-taught through online resources, he gradually honed his skills and started creating music that resonated with friends and family.
It wasn’t until 2020 that he gathered the courage to share his music with the world. Encouraged by collaborations with his talented wife, an accomplished singer, and inspired by positive feedback, he took the plunge to release his music on digital streaming platforms and YouTube. The response was heartening, fueling his passion for creating music. Now, after four years, he is set to release his fourth EP later this month.
Crafting a unique identity was crucial to him. With a deep fascination for sound, transcending language barriers, he chose the artist name “Naad,” derived from the Sanskrit word meaning “sound.” Behind this alias, he handles every aspect of his musicโfrom composition and production to video editing, graphic design, and content creationโbuilding a dedicated fanbase and promoting his work independently.
Driven by a desire to empower others, he founded Pro Audio Masteryโa platform where he teaches independent and aspiring artists how to produce professional-quality music from their homes using basic resources. Through personalized coaching and his comprehensive guide, “Pro Audio 101,” available on his website proaudiomastery.com, Amazon, and Flipkart, he equips musicians with the skills to unleash their creativity without relying on expensive studios.
Scaling his venture posed challenges, particularly in marketing and sales. After an initial eight-month solo effort, he partnered with an agency, which significantly boosted profitability. Looking ahead, he plans to expand his offerings with practical video courses designed to accelerate the music production journey for aspiring artists.
As a web developer, he seamlessly integrates technology into his artistic and educational pursuits, bridging the gap between art and technology.
