Giving Dreams Wings: A Journey from Silence to Soaring Heights

How Lockdown Opened the Cage for a Poet’s Words to Take Flight?

Let’s Dwelve

Dreams are wings , invisible though that subtly creep inside whenย  your eyes areย  closed. They do enter bringing forth something that could help you take a flight. In order to make dreams come true, you need to flap these wings . My dreams were small as small as I was and you may say, it did grow with me. I never knewย  words that I played with as a child would take a flight to where I have reached today. Getting words to rhyme, to pen down something on special occasions, to participate and contribute to the kids column in newspapers, was me as a child.ย

Years passed by and somewhere these words took a back seat in life. Family, home, responsibility took priority, but these words did flap their wings as if in a cage. Waiting for the door to open one day and then take its flight to reach heights. Strange but true that when the world shut itself in the 202O lockdown, my words did escape. I guess they knew all were inside and now  they were free to roam around.

The homemaker got down to writing her thoughts as she accepted a diary writing challenge. The lockdown was a challenge in itself and she knew this was the right time to take the flight.

Emotions, feelings, fear, anxiety and uncertainty needed to vent out and this writing challenge got her to publish her first book ever The Shades Of Solitude by Writersgram publication. I can say these emotions that normally make a person hesitate to move ahead, helped me take my leap.

The journey of a poet and a writer had begun. Amidst the uncertainties, emotional turmoil, responsibility and fear my words gave me relief . I got opportunities to share my words in the new digital world. The online writing platforms , the various anthologies accepted my work. I contributed in various anthologies as co author. I learnt and did self publish two of my books online called Bonsai and Spectrum. It was in the same year I started my blog Pennedconnections @wordpress.com .

I always believed word connect better to the heart. I  was just there to get my words reach a wider global audience. Sometimes rhythmic, sometimes harsh, sometimes sensitive ,sometimes just sharing thoughts on love, my words got the recognition. I gave voice to my thoughts and started my journey with my podcast Live Wires on Spotify.

Strange it was and confusing at times that sitting in my  nest, my home, I had learnt to take my flight. My dreams were there just giving me the space that though confined to the walls , knew exactly how to reach and travel out. When you see an opening, you need to go out and see. Is there something worthy or exciting for you. You need to know that in order to make your dreams come true you need to put in a lot of hard work and be focused . A cage has always had something trapped but it is for this something to decide whether you need to just flutter with disgust and hopelessness or you squeeze, wriggle out or look for an opportunity to free yourself.

There are so many things that could give shape to a dream. It could be fear which makes you shudder and make you feel weak. It might you wake up instantly . Some dreams might be just clouds , heavy or light that never clearly speak or show. You know it but can never explain or express. Some dreams are the ones that set a goal in life. A dream about your aspirations and accomplishments.

You may dream when you rest and sleep but you may also dream , awake and alert. This is the dream that you want to fulfil, a dream to make your life worthy and meaningful. This dream is never forgotten and it keeps flapping itโ€™s wings, waiting to touch the sky. This dream never lets you sleep or be lazy. It makes you work harder, it makes you restless. Initially it finds it difficult to rise but with constant pushing, motivation, support, guidance and opportunities it finally flies high. It reaches a stage when the sky seems to be limitless and learning never ends.

The flight had and does have turbulences till the time you gain stability and you enjoy the flight. I gave my words flight. I did perch on every tree as I never wanted to rush, I wanted to go slow but consistently trying to improve myself. I had challenges, I did have failures, I did face competition but I kept flapping my wings. Every step you make has its destination. You might not know what is ahead but what matters most that you did make a beginning. There is no age limit to dreams.

Whenever you do wake up try, maybe your dream was just a hint to what was life giving you. Maybe something was waiting for you and you just needed to flap your wings and fly. I had woken up and had begun my journey. I have no clue how high I would fly , will I be able to flap my wings forever.

But I had made a beginning and had given my dream wings. I knew there was someone up there beyond the sky who was  helping my words  fly  and travel far and wide. There might be someone sitting in their nest, their home, reading my thoughts that I did write.
