Content Writer by Day, Pet’s (Shaggy) Employee by Night

Hello everyone, Siddhant this side, a permanent employer of someone who doesn’t give me the incentives but, in return for my dedication towards him, gives me wet kisses, infinite love, cozy sleeps, and a promise that lasts forever of keeping me engaged and alive. This story is of my lifeline, Shaggy, an Indie male dog who adopted me, instead of me adopting him. This blog is about how I am a Content Writer by Day but a Pet’s Employee by Night.

Shaggy

In general, Shaggy isn’t my pet; he is my beloved son, my reason for happiness, the one who fills up my emptied soul, and the one who is always there when no one is around me. Here, I am gonna tell you about how I have to be a multiple personality person at once because of my main life’s employer, Shaggy.

  1. My profession and my Personal life as a Pet Parent of Shaggy –

By profession, I am a content writer with 5 years of experience who used to love curating content for Blogs, Social Media Posts, Press releases, Articles, Website content, and other pieces. Along with this, I am a pet parent too, a responsibility I have taken on myself. I adopted Shaggy 3 years ago in Ahmedabad. While living there in a rented flat for almost a year, I moved back to my hometown with him. As a pet parent, I am accountable for everything related to his health and daily routine, so it’s more than a duty for me; it’s been my daily task for the last 3 years, and I will continue this with the same enthusiasm for years to come.

  1. My Routine with my Job + Shaggy timings –

I am in a Monday-to-Saturday remote job from 11 am to 7 pm, where I write blogs, create engaging reels, write LinkedIn posts, and, on the side, handle social media for 2 Animal NGOs and 1 Human NGO. Along with these, I kept applying for new freelancing opportunities.

Despite my busy schedule, I have to be answerable to my primary employer, Shaggy, with whom I have to play whenever he has zoomies or is in the mood. I am not allowed to neglect his orders.

  1. My Time Table –

It may sound funny, but training a pet is a massive struggle in itself, especially when you have a hyperactive breed more than a Husky; An Indie, which is crazy. My routine starts with taking him for a walk in the morning, and then I can begin my professional life as a writer. More than the job’s timing, I am alert to Shaggy’s loud pleading to go for the walk, and that’s not less than an alarm. Whether I sleep on time or late at night due to my projects and professional life, I can’t neglect it.

I have to take him for a walk without any hook and crook, and at 4.30 in the evening too. Whether I am in a meeting or busy with a project, 4.30 pm has been set as his walking time, and I have to make myself available by then. People say employers are rigid, but my non-human employer, Shaggy, is stricter and more rigid than all the human employers.

  1. Shaggy is my Son, more than a Pet –

Several people nowadays keep dogs or other pets just as a status symbol or to guard their houses or farmhouses, but here, in my case, everything is different. Along with my intentions, my love for Shaggy and our bond are beyond a pet-and-owner relationship. We have a relationship of father and son, just as a human parent has with their children. I know we didn’t give birth to him, but not all relations are by blood; some are by intentions, pureness, and divinity.

Despite my busy schedule, I have to make time for him anytime he wants, because it’s a reality I can’t change that his life is shorter than ours. As a father, I want to make every day memorable so he enjoys it to the fullest.

  1. Shaggy Handle’s my Mood –

Shaggy not only boosts me up but also helps me handle my moods. With his notoriety, alertness, and activities, he keeps me engaged, allowing me to ignore my troubles and frustrations because his presence makes me happier and calmer. During the walks, we both judge people and play the whole time, irritating each other. He understands my mood better than I do.

I still remember the days when we used to travel on a bike together in Ahmedabad. He always used to stare at me during road rage to calm me down, and kept staring till I kissed him on his head for confirmation that I was okay and calm.

  1. Shaggy once helped me to avoid Depression –

This is out of the box, but I shared a short go-through from the recent past.

Recently, I was in bed for almost 6 months due to my knee’s meniscus injury, and 4 months ago, I had a significant operation for the same. Those months were the toughest months of my life because, as an animal lover, who once was always on the rescues, driving a vehicle for helping out my parents, to going on walks twice a day with Shaggy, to being laid in the same place for the whole day long with the incapability of even walking a step, completely broke me from inside. It was like everything just stopped around me.

Shaggy

During these phases, too, along with my parents, Shaggy always stood up for me. As I mentioned earlier, he sleeps with me on the same bed, so he always takes care of avoiding any minor injury to my leg, even in his deep sleep, comforting me every time by licking my teary eyes and giving me a warm hug whenever I feel lo,w and sleeps while hugging me tightly to avoid me getting nightmares and to feel helpless.

What shook me to the core was that during that phase, Shaggy completely stopped playing, and it was like his alertness and hyperactive attitude were gone; he even used to come back early from walks with my mother to reduce the time I spent alone at home without him. Note – He loves walking and exploring the most, but during those times, he immediately takes my mother back home and avoids longer walks so he can be with me sooner. He continuously checks on me, whether I am in a good mood or sad.

  1. My 24*7 availability to my Employer – Shaggy –

From morning to evening, I work for the companies for whom I have been working professionally, but during those hours, too, I am an employee of Shaggy. And after my working hours too, till midnight, I am liable to answer the pleas of my non-human employer, Shaggy, too, which includes –

  • Playing with him,
  • Having our Instrumental sessions.
  • Tearing things and getting scolded with the parents together
  • Eating late-night snacks together and
  • Sleeping together after a lovely fight.

And from the morning, repeating the same comforting, soothing, and exciting cycle.

Note from a Writer who’s his Pet’s Employee by Night –

I really love my routine of working from 11 am to 7 pm and being an employee by night for my pet, because this is the life I wanted since childhood. I always dreamt of having a dog as my own son and having a beautiful job to work on with utmost dedication and commitment. My commitment to both jobs is rigid, but Shaggy’s is timeless because he is too strict about keeping me engaged 24*7, and I seriously can’t deny it.

I never take this employment and responsibility as a burden; I always cherish it, with a smile on my face and a heart filled with happiness.
